Getting Started

How do I schedule my first appointment?

You can schedule your first appointment by calling our office at (555) 123-4567, using our online booking system, or filling out the contact form on our website. We'll respond within one business day to confirm your appointment.

What happens during my first session?

Your first session is typically an intake appointment where your therapist will ask about your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This helps us understand your needs and create a personalized treatment plan. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable with your therapist.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can benefit anyone, whether you're dealing with a specific issue or simply want to grow as a person. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, struggling in relationships, or just want someone to talk to, therapy can help. We offer free 15-minute consultations to help you decide if our services are right for you.

Can I choose my therapist?

Yes! We encourage you to review our team members' profiles and specializations on our website. If you have a preference, let us know when scheduling. We'll also help match you with a therapist based on your specific needs and concerns.

Sessions & Scheduling

How long are therapy sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Couples therapy sessions are usually 80 minutes to allow time for both partners. Family therapy sessions range from 60-90 minutes. Group therapy sessions are 90 minutes.

How often should I come to therapy?

Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship. As you progress, you may transition to bi-weekly or monthly sessions. Your therapist will work with you to determine the frequency that best supports your goals.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) incur a $75 fee, and missed appointments (no-shows) are charged the full session fee. We understand emergencies happen—please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Yes, we offer early morning, evening, and some Saturday appointments to accommodate busy schedules. Availability varies by therapist, so please inquire about specific times when booking.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we are in-network with most major insurance providers including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and more. We also accept Medicare. Visit our Insurance page for a full list of accepted plans.

What if you don't take my insurance?

If we're out of network with your insurance, you can still see us as a self-pay client. We provide superbills (detailed receipts) that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients receive 50-80% reimbursement this way.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, we offer a sliding scale fee structure based on income and family size for those who qualify. We believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care. Please ask about sliding scale availability when scheduling.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of service. We accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards. For your convenience, we can keep a card on file for automatic payment.

Telehealth

How does telehealth therapy work?

Telehealth therapy is conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. You'll receive a link before your appointment to join the session from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. It's just like an in-person session, but from the comfort of your own space.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Research shows that telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns. Many clients appreciate the convenience and find they can be more open from the comfort of their own environment.

What do I need for a telehealth session?

You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, a private space where you won't be interrupted, and an updated web browser. We recommend using headphones for added privacy.

Can I switch between in-person and telehealth?

Absolutely! Many clients use a combination of both. You can choose telehealth when convenient and come to the office when you prefer. Just let us know your preference when scheduling.

Confidentiality & Privacy

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are limited exceptions: if you're at imminent risk of harming yourself or others, if there's suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or if required by a court order. Your therapist will explain these limits during your first session.

Will my employer or family find out I'm in therapy?

No. We do not share information about your treatment with anyone without your written consent. Even the fact that you're our client is confidential. If you use insurance, your insurance company will receive limited information for billing purposes.

Can I access my therapy records?

Yes, you have the right to access your therapy records under HIPAA. Some records, like psychotherapy notes, may require additional authorization. Contact our office to request your records.

How is my information protected?

We use HIPAA-compliant systems for all records, communications, and telehealth sessions. Your information is encrypted, access is restricted to authorized personnel, and we follow strict security protocols to protect your privacy.

About Therapy

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your goals and concerns. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. Your therapist will regularly check in about your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

What if I don't feel connected to my therapist?

The therapeutic relationship is crucial to successful treatment. If you don't feel connected to your therapist after a few sessions, please let us know. We can discuss your concerns or help you transition to another therapist who might be a better fit.

Do you prescribe medication?

Our therapists do not prescribe medication, but our psychiatrists can. Many clients benefit from therapy alone, while others find a combination of therapy and medication most helpful. We can provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management if appropriate.

What types of therapy do you offer?

We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. Our therapists use various evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, tailored to your specific needs.
